Love. What Is That?
Abbey Dickhudt

Love is something that we can all give to one another, no matter how simple or complex it may be in the way you share it.

Some may share love by simply smiling and opening the doors for others. Some may show their love by simply helping someone study for a test or teaching someone how to play a game. Some may show their love by quietly sending encouragement through notes and prayers.

Others will show their love by what seems like they’re not sharing it at all. They may not tell someone how much they appreciate them or smile or send positive encouragement. But they still have the love, no matter how little it is shown. They may show it once in a while with a flash of a smile or small joke. It may take someone years to ever fully describe their love to someone or something else, but that does not disregard the love. Love is love, no matter how big or small.

With this love, it is often looked on as an isolated topic, something that is only for a specific relationship or friendship. As in, the one moment in your life when you are totally filled with true love is when you find your soulmate.

I’m a big romantic, so I also dream of meeting certain soulmates, but that cannot be all someone thinks or dreams about. Love is not limited to “one person.” It cannot be limited to that. With limiting your true love to one person, you are also putting your happiness, your experiences, and your expectations on one person, a person you may not even know.

Instead of seeing love as something you will one day give fully to one person, see it as something you can give every day to everyone.

You have hundreds of soulmates, and they are all around you. They are the friends, trees, strangers, teachers, and animals that are near you, ready for love.

I’m also a sentimental and emotional person, but love is not for just one type of person. Love, no matter how big or how small, is a natural part of all of us.

Compassion and love are often seen as just sentimental feelings, but they are so much more than that. Love is something we all need and something we can all give, that’s because it is natural.

Your love counts, every bit of it. Every small act of love you show to someone is valued, and every big act of love you show is also valued.

Love is simple, and love is complex. Show love, feel love, share love, listen for love, let your love grow.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
