Win or lose, they will always be my team.

8 Reasons I Love the Cubs
Sports Mockery

1. I was born in Chicago

No, I am not someone who hopped on the bandwagon because the Cubs are having a good year. I was basically born to love the Cubs. Why not the White Sox? My mom lived on the north side of Chicago, closer to Wrigleyville. Plus, the Cubs are way better than the Sox.

2. They are really good

Any Cubs fan will tell you this is their year; and it is. The Cubs are dominating this season. They currently at the top of their league and hold the best record in the MLB. The Cubs are also in the number two slot for runs with 344 this season.

3. The players

In order to be good, a team must have good players, and this one does. This season Jake Arrieta pitched a no hitter. As of right now, his ERA is 1.86, which is the second best ERA in the MLB. Anthony Rizzo, a superb first baseman, is number three for RBI’s with 49 so far this season. Basically what I’m saying is check National League leaders in any category and you’ll find a Cub.

4. Team cohesion

If you follow the players on social media like I do, you know that these guys have tons of fun together. It is very important to have a bond as a team, and the Cubs do. They have different themes when they go on road trips, thanks to Joe, and have a good time with it.

5. They are real people

Sometimes we forget that athletes and celebrities are real people. However, the Cubs players never let you forget it. They are super hilarious and down to Earth.

6. Joe Maddon

With Joe Maddon as the Cubs manager, it is hard not to love them a little extra this year. Maddon is an excellent manager. He even won the National League Manage of the Year award last year. He does a great job motivating the players by telling them “try not to suck” and he is always willing to challenge a close call, even if that means getting kicked out of the game. Everything he does is in the best interest of the team.

7. Wrigley Field

Some things get better with age and this is true for Wrigley Field. Although I have personally never been inside the park, I have heard the atmosphere is amazing. The field is well maintained and the look of the scoreboard is timeless. Visiting this field should be on the top of everyone’s bucket list.

8. The fans

Overtime, fans come and go. Many people rely on the standing of a team to favor them (which was very evident when the Seahawks won the super bowl). Luckily, this is not true for Cubs fans. The Cubs haven’t won the World Series since 1908, which makes it hard for fans to rely on their winning streak to support them. Cubs fans love their team, win or lose. They are extremely loyal and never fail to root, root, root for the Cubbies.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
