Although Spring's entrance can be a little sickening (literally, the weather is changing, pollen is everywhere and people are sick), spring cleaning is my favorite. Call me crazy for saying that I enjoy cleaning, but I can't deny the fact that I am, indeed, a tad bit wild. If you have ever cleaned every nook and cranny of every nook and cranny in your house, you know exactly what I'm talking about. There is some sort dignified feeling of satisfaction in a graciously clean home. When everything is put in its rightful place and nothing random is laying around. Ahhh... Just writing about it is satisfying. There is something about knowing, and seeing, that you cleaned everything that leaves an excited, indulgent desire within the soul to want to leave a space clean forever. If only.
Light consumes your home, brightening even the darkest of spots. Really, spring cleaning brightens a home. Not only because the windows are open and sunlight is flowing in, but because a room can appear brighter when it's cleaner. Not to mention the cool breeze of the wind that refreshes your home and cleanses it of any stale smells. The birds can be heard singing to each other, along with the leaves that ruffle in the trees.
Every single speck of dust, visible and invisible, has disappeared. No more seeing clusters of dust piling on the blades of your ceiling fan. No more thinking about the microscopic dust particles that don't catch the eye but hide on the baseboards of the bathroom wall, instead. The air is fresh and dust-free. Frames that hold memories inside of them are now clean, and the table that holds the frames is clean as well. No more walking by and staring at the dust because the deed has been done, and the dust has disappeared.
The glass on the window is crystal clear, and you are reminded that your spring cleaning routine is helping you to do the same and clear your mind. Cleaning brings me a certain sense of relief. You know when you clean your room and then suddenly you feel like your whole life is together? Yeah, like that kind of feeling of relief. Plus, a little elbow grease never hurt anybody. It definitely pays off to walk into a clean home and feel so fresh, so clean. (Yes, I did just make an OutKast reference.)
Cleaning your home is tiring! It can certainly serve as a workout if you put in enough effort and maybe throw in a couple squats from the kitchen to the living room. Nonetheless, you're putting in hard work. Your scrubbing, sweating and utilization of lonely cleaning supplies was worth it. Now, relaxation is right around the corner.
