Villanova is definitely not the smallest collegiate student body, but with about 1,700 students per grade year there are some definite perks. Smaller classes and a more compact campus have always prevented me from feeling like just another number in the population. Here are a few reasons I enjoy attending a smaller school.
1. The small class sizes.
My largest class at Villanova so far was a 70-person chemistry lecture. This class also had a 20-person recitation meeting each week and the professor knew all of our names. I really enjoy the fact that it is easy to get to know professors, especially in the average 25-person class. Learning in a smaller class size is more effective for me, because you are held accountable for your work and professors notice your attendance.
2. Always seeing someone you know and someone you don’t know.
Walking around on campus, I always pass by someone I know, but at the same time, there are so many students I don’t know. I like the close-knit feeling of passing by people I recognize. However, it’s important to know that there is so much more going on at Villanova that I don’t know about and so much more to explore.
3.The smaller campus.
Villanova has a South, Main, and West campus while still being very centralized. I enjoy that I don’t need to worry about catching a bus to head to class or even a longer than 15 minute walk. Many days I walk from South to Main campus in five minutes and make it to my classes easily, never thinking about a bus schedule or parking. I value how condensed campus is, making it effortless to get around quickly.
