I have really been struggling with what "goals" people have nowadays.
I see on Twitter all the time about what people post as their "goals."
These pictures go like this..
A girl and guy grinding all over each other at a beach party.
A girl laying in probably $500 worth of Victoria Secret.
A MK watch that is $300.
A Tiffany and Co. ring or some form of jewelry that is also a couple hundred dollars.
Two people watching Netflix and holding each other.
Flowers at a doorstep.
You get the point.
The problem that I have with this is that they are so material. Love is now being defined as what gifts you receive or the places you can travel to. The issue is that girls are setting standards for guys that are unrealistic, and vice versa. The last time I checked not many students can afford to buy their significant other $500 worth of gifts "just because." That's okay.
Love should not be a name brand. The measurement of love should not be based upon the dollar amount. This goes even beyond school, this also applies to marriage.
Love is not something that should leave you expecting more.
You should not be disappointed because you love someone who is not as wealthy as you dreamed.
Love will make you rich.
Love will make you wealthy.
Love will satisfy you, always.
So how about instead of setting goals that are unrealistic and materialistic, you set some for yourself.
How do these goals sound?
I want to travel all 50 states.
I want to graduate college.
I want to go on a mission trip.
I want to make the dean's list.
I want to be a better person.
I want to love myself.
These goals will change your life. They will help you focus on things that are so much more important than a $50 bra.
Love also does not have to be found in a person.
Love can be found from within.
Love can be found in God.
Love can be found in the serenity of a place.
Love can be found in a book.
Love can be found in a song.
Love can be found in so many places, if only you look for the right things.
Life is so fragile and short. Why waste it on things that don't matter?
Live your life with goals that will get you somewhere, and not that will make you look good on social media.
