Why I Love "A Very Potter Musical"

Because getting back to Hogwarts isn't the only priority that I have.

Judgmental Observer

Like many individuals, I get distracted very easily - especially when it is Sunday night and I have homework due. Also like many individuals, my distraction leads me to Youtube where I am able to see all of those cool makeup and hair tutorials that I say I'm going to try and then never do. One night, right before my English Literature homework was due, I found my way to Youtube.com and stumbled across something that made my head forget that my homework was due in 30 minutes -- I stumbled upon A Very Potter Musical. This was like nothing that I had ever seen before but it was everything that I needed. "Harry Potter" combined with a musical? Sign me up. If you have not seen A Very Potter Musical (or any of the other StarKid productions), or you just need a reason to watch it again, ya girl's go you covered.

1. Darren Criss

That's right, before this wonderful human being was cast as Blane Anderson on the Fox series "Glee", he was a founding member and co-owner of Chicago based, StarKid Productions. Aside from Darren Criss being a generally great human being, he also played a very convincing, very funny Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical.

2. Catchy Music

Hello, my name is Alaina Owen and I am a complete Potter-head. (Hi Alaina) I am also addicted to musicals (as shown by all of my Spotify playlists). Until StarKid, I am pretty sure that nobody sat down and thought, "You know what would make "Harry Potter" better? Making it into a musical!" That's probably because you didn't know that you needed "Harry Potter" turned into a musical until you watch A Very Potter Musical or it's prequel or sequel (by "or" I mean "and").

3. Relationships

Sure, the obvious friendship between Hermione, Ron, and Harry are important, but let me tell you about the relationship between Voldemort and Professor Quirrel. It is magic.

Yes, that is two grown men standing back to back and sharing a black graduation gown. In the book, Quirrel and Voldemort shared an extremely toxic relationship. I mean, Voldemort literally used Professor Quirrel because he needed a physical form. In A Very Potter Musical, this relationship is better than any one that I have ever had (ayyy, joke about Alaina's love life *buh dum tiss*). Voldemort and Quirrel share a bond that only comes from sharing a body, but they are so much more than that - they being a different dimension to two characters that "Harry Potter" fans hate to love.

Nothing will ever be able to replace my love for "Harry Potter"; the books are absolute magic and the movies take me to a different world, but when it's close to midnight and you have assignments due, check out A Very Potter Musical and bring your love to a whole new level.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
