Recently the Black Eyed Peas launched a remake of their song, "Where Is the Love?" along with a music video filled with many famous stars and artists.
While having some was some controversy surround it, the message of the video is very clear and should be listened to because at this point in time, we could all use more love in our lives.
The proceeds funded from the track will go to the i.am.angel foundation, a non-profit created by will.i.am in order to raise money for the underprivileged youth and help supply them with the means for an education. So why did Will.i.am decide to revise the song now? In a past interview with the Black Eyed Peas they said, "I remember when the Paris attack happened, people would say we need 'Where Is the Love?' again, and then Belgium happened. And then Turkey, and then Orlando, and then Philando, and Alton before him, and then Dallas. Everyone was calling on us, like, 'We need that song again.'" Will.i.am goes on to say, "I hope this song inspires the millennial to go all out."
Personally I believe this will inspire, but more so I hope it makes people actually listen. This song is not directed towards one person or race, it's a message to all. Midway through the song you can hear one singer voice these phrases, "Where is the love, when a child gets murdered or a cop gets knocked down? Black lives not now, everybody matter to me. [...] Guess we all racist, Black Eyed Peas write a song about love and you hating. All these protests with different colored faces, we were all born with a heart, why we gotta chase it?" Hearing those lines helped me realize that again, all lives matter.
No one has the authority to say their life take precedent over another. Absolutely no one in the world holds that power. We are all human, yet we are no longer humane. We riot, fight, kill, and then turn the cheek. By trying to stop the sexist, racial, and gender divisions that have been created, we are fighting. Ask yourself, is this getting us anywhere? So far there has only been more destruction following these cries for help and the reason why is because of the fact that no one can seem to generate empathy anymore. Let's learn from the past and instead of creating mountains of rage piled upon division, try love. Ban together instead of standing apart and see how the results change. It's okay to need help and guidance, we all do.
This remake can inspire the millennial and I hope it does. If there is any message to be spread from this it's, "Where is the love?"
