Which Is Stronger: Love Or Hate?

I recently came upon the question, "Do you think love or hate is stronger?" and this sparked an interest for a topic for me to write about and share.

To me, love is accepting someone for who they are, but also supporting them if they want to make a positive change. Love is being there whenever that person needs you; you put unimportant chores aside to help. At my cousins wedding I attended recently, there was a speech that touched me. It lead with a quote from the Bible, stating,

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

The speech continued with words like these, encouraging the almost-wed couple to not "take turns" with chores. If the other is sleeping and the baby wakes up crying, do not wake your spouse because it is their turn to take care of the baby, but simply let them sleep and take care of the child because you love your spouse and do not want to disturb them.

A strong belief of mine is, if you love someone you always want the best, even if the best for them is not in your best interest. An example is if someone got into their dream college across the country, you would encourage them to go because you know it is what they want. Sure, you want them to stay and be with you but if you love someone, you want them to be happy.

Hate, on the other hand, I believe is a lack of love that leads to emotions such as anger and jealousy. Hate can be formed from a wrong-doing, break of trust, or hurt feelings. Hate can also come from yourself, it can from from insecurities or the wish to be someone else.

After contemplating what love and hate is. which is stronger? I believe love is stronger, but from what we see in the world, hate is more expressed. Self-love is the strongest because even hate can not make someone dislike themselves if they are confident and someone knows their worth. You need love to conquer hate. Currently, hate is more "popular" than love, thus it is can be stronger. Love can only be stronger if it is present; if not, hate will always win.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
