I grew up coming to OCMD ever since I can remember. I have gone to Ocean City Maryland at least once a year. Going to a certain place so often eventually just sticks with you.
The ocean:
So, I know there are many many many other places where you can get to the ocean but this one is just my favorite. I have been obsessed with the ocean for as long as I can remember and Maryland is the first place I saw it. I remember when I was 7 or 8 and I would sit on the beach, stare at the ocean, and time wave patterns. I’m also allergic to chlorine so this is where I can swim, and I love love love swimming. I am also one of the people that believe salt water is the cure for anything. If I’m sad the only place I want to be is here, by the waves.
The boardwalk:
This is the best boardwalk out of any beach and you can’t argue with me on that. It has everything from rides, to restaurants, to stores. There board walk is 3 miles long, and honestly just walking the whole thing is entertaining enough itself. There’s something on the boardwalk for everyone to do whether you’re 2 or 80 years old.
Free beaches:
Yes, yes, yes, yes! This makes me so happy. All of OCMD’s 10 miles of gorgeous clean beaches are free. Bye bye beach tags Jersey!
Macky’s:
This is my favorite restaurant here. It’s located on 54th street on the bay side. My favorite thing about it here is being able to eat dinner on the beach at the bay. It’s decorated with palm trees and cute lights. They occasionally have live music on the weekends, the food is super good (and they have more than just seafood!), and it’s adorable. Macky’s is a bar as well as a restaurant and you can always count on it to be packed with people.
The fishing pier on the boardwalk:
Although, I love fishing, I don’t go fishing up here. This pier has been through so much. Hurricanes have taken it out and it’s been rebuilt, waves constantly crash on it all the time, and people are always on it. Now this is my favorite place in the entire world. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I could (and have) spent hours here. It’s my favorite place to go if I’m sad because it just makes me extremely happy. If you ever are in Ocean City Maryland I highly suggest walking out to the end of the pier. It costs 50 cents if you’re not fishing. Also if you do go to the end of it don’t go near where people cut their fish, it smells.
Paradise Watersports:
You’ll need to drive over the bridge to West Ocean City to get here. It’s located behind the restaurant Hooper’s. You can go parasailing, jet skiing, rent jet skis, etc. from Paradise Watersports. I absolutely love parasailing. When you go parasailing with PW, you are taken out into the ocean or bay with a group of other people and then they send each group (so like you and your friend or whoever you’re with would go together as a ‘group’) up at a time. You can pick 400, 600, or 800 feet up. The view is absolutely insane and the crew is experienced and super nice.
I met one of my best friends:
So when I was 6 years old, (yes 6) I was playing on the beach with my family and I met this girl named Ashleigh. We became very close friends and we are still close friends to this day (12 years later). It still amazes me how we met. Our parents would always plan when our vacations would be at the same time so we could see each other while we were there because she lives in Virginia and I live in Pennsylvania.
The rooftop:
There is this one condominium that we stay in pretty often that has the roof set up as a deck area. You can see the ocean and the bay from up there and it’s one of my favorite places to sit. Sunsets are incredible up there too. Some really good and crazy memories have been made up on that roof.
Billy’s Sub Shop:
This one is really random but one year my friend Zoe and I went into this little pizza place next to where we were staying and it became one of my favorite places. I recommend ordering a medium fry and chocolate milkshake. Make sure you put extra salt on the fries and eat them with ketchup. :)
It’s home:
Like they say, home is where the heart is. I could go on forever about how much I love Ocean City Maryland but I genuinely consider this place home. I have so many amazing memories here. I couldn’t imagine loving a place more than I love OCMD.
