Why I'm In Love With Nick Miller

I'm just not a Schmidt girl.

So, last week I realized that the (Internet) world was really excited for the premiere of the sixth season of the lovable, addictive comedy series, "New Girl." As a huge fan of the show, I was excited to learn about it too, BUT only because it meant season five was put on Netflix and this girl started on the "New Girl" train late and is only finishing up season four. However, it got me wondering — will I continue to fall in love with Nick Miller as the show goes on?

The answer is probably. But why? I'm here to tell ya.

He's attractive.

Let's get the more "superficial" one out of the way - mostly because it's the most obvious. Looks do matter, guys, and there's no denying that he's a cutie (Shoutout to Jake Johnson who sort of deserves this credit). He may not have a chiseled jaw or a clear-cut six-pack, but he still has us swooning. Plus, I think he made the Dad Bod cool before it was.

He's hilarious, kind, and charming.

Come on, Nick's got a killer personality. He's always making anyone in/visiting the loft laugh with his ridiculous jokes, ideas, or inventions, but he's also the one they all go to if they need advice or are upset. Despite his self-deprecating humor, girls like him because he's sociable, flirtatious without even trying, and just so damn likable.

Regardless of what he says, he has an expressive face for every emotion.

Especially what's referred to as his "turtle face".

He's an excellent friend.

Even when they're in the midst of a fight (or in Jess's case, breakup), he puts those he loves first and can't stay mad at them for too long. He gets annoyed easily, but is always ready to make up right away so they can get back to having a beer and discussing zombies.

He provides the best quotes.

As a sucker for quotes, I genuinely appreciate when a person or character provides me with some good ones and Nick Miller has definitely delivered. Some of my favorites are:

"I'm not convinced I know how to read. I've just memorized a lot of words."

"Do I regret it? Yes. Would I do it again? Probably."

"I like getting older, I feel like I'm aging into my personality."

"When life gives me lemonade, I just turn it into a bunch of lemons."

And as much as he loves to joke, you gotta love how Nick can be sentimental

"I know this isn't going to end well, but the middle part is going to be awesome."

There's nothing wrong with falling for a character once in a while, and this one is even more guilt-free because he's no prince charming. But why should he be? So, yes, Schmidt is charming, attractive, muscular, and driven, but I'm just a Nick Miller type of girl (as I believe many are). There's something very comforting about someone who doesn't have it all together most of the time but still manages to live such an impactful, happy life.

Cheers to that, Nick.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
