There's several reasons why I love Mother's Day.
First of all, it's placed in the perfect month. The weather is at its prime before the summer heat sets in. Flowers are blooming and producing their heavenly scents all around. The weekends are beginning to fill with events and outdoor activities for families to enjoy. May is simply a beautiful month to celebrate our mothers.
Next are the obligatory "Mother's Day posts" on social media. Around noon on Mother's Day, when families are either leaving church or brunch, is when social media really start to blow up as children and spouses begin sharing pictures with their moms and wives on Facebook, usually accompanied by a cute and sappy caption. My favorite ones are the mother/daughter posts, which normally include the pair dressed fashionably and embracing each other.
While these reasons to love Mother's Day are great, they don't compare to my favorite: I get to celebrate and treat my mother. The same mother whose spent countless nights by my side comforting me when I just couldn't keep it together. The same mother whose sacrificed more than I'll ever know for my happiness and well-being. The same mother who I can confide all my deepest secrets and quirks to and still have her love me unconditionally. The same mother who laughs and looks at me with that smile every time somebody tells us, "You two look like sisters!"
I can't imagine where I'd be without your words of wisdom, encouragement and intuition. Your heart is so kind and selfless towards others and your love for Christ and His people is contagious. I love that about you. God has truly blessed me with more than a mother. When He handpicked you to be my mother, I got a role model, a mentor, a laughing buddy and a best friend all wrapped up into one: my mom. You have shaped me into the strong woman I am becoming and I have you to thank.
I love when my friends and coworkers tell me how wonderful you are and say we're the perfect duo. Because, well, we are. Doing life with you is fun and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
I know I don't need a national holiday to tell you all these things, but at least I have a day where I can acceptably brag about you to others!
Love you endlessly, Mom.
