While the rest of the sports world gears up for SuperBowls, World Series and Kentucky Derbies, four major tournaments are happening in January, June, July and August that have people traveling to different countries or waking up at 3am to catch the end of a championship match due to time differences. This may sound crazy (trust me, I've done it) but to tennis fans, it's the thrill of following the major Grand Slam tournaments at the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open that makes it worth every second of sleep deprivation. Having played tennis for nine years, there are a lot of different components that one needs to keep in mind while playing or watching this sport. If you don't follow much of tennis, here are 10 facts you should know about the tennis world:
1. It's not necessarily a QUIET sport
Sure, you can't scream, talk or pretty much breathe during a point, but after the point is finished, it's all fair game for the next 20 seconds. Unless you're watching the match on television. In that case, scream, curse or dance until your heart is content.
2. That being said, it's always fun to get the crowd amped up and part of the exhilaration happening on the court
4. Women do a lot more than just wear trendy athletic clothes to tournaments. A LOT more
5. On occasion, you'll start to question the laws of physics and if they truly exist...but be grateful when they spin in your favor
6. As tennis matches will be postponed due to rain
You need to get creative with the ways you choose to entertain yourself while staying active during grueling rain delays.
7. Communication is key
I repeat: Communication. Is. KEY.
8. If you don't have strawberries and cream, did you even go to or watch Wimbledon?
9. When questioning line calls, it's always important to make sure you're 100% sure you know what you're getting yourself into
