Love Me For My Brain, Not Just My Body

I'm so tired of guys only being interested in physical-only relationships.

Love Me For My Brain, Not Just My Body

It has started to become a routine. I meet someone, they seem super great for a while, and then I realize what they actually want. It's sad.

That moment when you're sitting next to a guy you have feelings for and he decides to try and take things a little too far for your liking. They think it's fine. They think you love it and can't get enough of it. Sure, all this could be great, but it's not everything.

What I am beginning to notice is that a lot of the guys I have met, especially in college, want strictly physical relationships. From hookups to friends with benefits, this sex-crazed culture is the biggest trend right now. Now, I have nothing against those who choose to take part in this. All I'm saying is, sex is most definitely not everything.

I'm at this unfortunate point in my life where I would love to settle down with someone and fall in love with every detail of them. This is quite unpopular for my age group, and believe me, it shows. Every time I go out with my friends, I never fail to have a boy approach me and ask if I'm "down." This, in my opinion, is so unattractive. What happened to the days where a guy would ask a girl out on a date before even kissing her?

It's kind of incredible to think about how careless our culture has become with intercourse and related activities. I know so many people who don't use condoms at all, and this is so scary to think about. Ladies, birth control does not protect from STDs. Protect yourself. Also, I'm tired of seeing "babies having babies."

So, call me old-fashioned, but all I want is my movie moment. An "Endless Love" story dancing-in-the-rain moment, kissing-at-stop-lights type of connection. A type of love where I can grow old with someone, know everything about them, and cherish every bit of our relationship. At this point, however, I'm afraid it's just not in the cards.

As more and more reality TV shows and related media pieces are released, I am worried about the future of love and relationships altogether. The way I was raised, a man is supposed to take care of a woman. Whether it be holding doors, paying for dinners, or walking her home. Today, stuff like this is hardly promoted. In some cases, it's even shot down.

I may be a hopeless romantic, and I may sound just a little bit dramatic, but I'm looking for the person to love me for my brain and not just my body. To love me for my humor, my love, and my compassion, and not just for what I look like without clothes on. I encourage others to look for the same as well.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
