An Introduction to Me

So, here I sit, ready to write my first Odyssey article. Truthfully, I have thought about what I want to write for my next 10 articles or so, but I haven't given a lot of thought to this introductory piece.

So, what can I tell you about in my first article. That will make you want to read more from me. I can tell you that I graduated from Carroll University in 2008. However, I haven't left Carroll yet. I am cleverly disguised as a college student wearing a backpack and everything.

I can tell you some of the best experiences in my life happened in my college dorm room. Never again will I get a Mohawk from one of my floor mates at the time with a pair of paper scissors and someones electric shaver they used to shave their face with. I will also never again drink a quart of non-alcoholic eggnog at 3 am immediately after purchasing it from the local Pick and Save store, which was open 24/7 at that time. These were some of the wild oats that I sewed during my undergraduate year. I did all of these things while being completely sober! Life after college has been interesting, I did a lot of volunteering and was a professional journalist for the past five or six years. I did all of this while being totally blind from birth. I love talking about blindness and will do so in subsequent articles bug for now I will leave you with two fun facts about blindness.

First fun fact: Unlike many other people who are blind, I can sense the difference between light and dark. That means right now I can tell you that even though it is a cold Wisconsin day I can see the sun shining through the windows of the Carroll library.

Fun fact number two: although I am blind, I wrestled in Middle School and High School. I remember it very well. I only won one match. It was the easiest match ever. I simply had to go out to the middle of the mat and shake the hand of the referee, the other guy had to forfeit because he got a bloody nose during the previous round. I must point out that I did not give him said bloody nose.

I am also a disc jockey on the radio. I have been a DJ on 104.5 WCCX for the past 7 years. When I was young I knew all the name of the DJ's on the Milwaukee radio dial.

I am writing this article in a coffee shop. I love to spend time in different local coffee shops. Listening to music and talking with friends. You will find many of my articles will be written from coffee shops. I love to make jokes about my blindness, I even do a stand up comedy routine. With that said, "I will see you around".

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
