A Love Letter To Myself

For the most important person in your life: YOU.

Dear Self,

I want to start off by telling you how much I absolutely adore you, because I never say it enough. Sometimes I forget. I forget how important you are, how much you do for me, how much I need you. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I don't like what I see. Sometimes I cry because I start to pick apart every little piece of you and I just wonder to myself why I got stuck with you. Sometimes all I can see is your flaws. I far too often tear you down instead of building you up. I'm mean to you. I belittle you. And worst of all, I doubt you.

And I'm so sorry for that. I'm sorry that I forget how special you are. I'm sorry I forget to treat you with the love and respect I have for so many other people. No matter what happens, it's always going to be me and you. Together forever. And nothing makes me happier.

Because you are so unique. There is literally nobody else in this whole wide world who will ever be just like you. Your beauty is radiant, inside and out. You have people in your life that love you, and that is never going to change. I hope that when you start feeling down, this little reminder can bring you back up. Always remember, I love you.

XOXO,

Me

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
