Squads, we all have them and we all love them. Our “squad” is our “people.” Our “people” are the ones who we can go to with anything and everything, regardless of the time, the day, or the reason.
According to Urban Dictionary, a squad is “an informal group of individuals with a common identity and a sense of solidarity.” Sounds like you and your friends, right?
The particular identity and task of the squad are to serve squad like duties: talking, gossiping, drinking, sleeping, eating, shopping, binge-watching, comforting—pretty much anything that involves the tasks of everyday life.
These people are the ones who voluntarily choose to take part in your everyday life activities, no matter how crazy, moody, and weird you are. These people are your best friends, your roommates, and/or your squad mates, and they complete you. Though all of you are vastly different in your looks, personalities, and habits, all of you somehow form this one complete person—a person who can come together at any moment of any day and take joy in knowing you have one another.
Need someone to go to the bathroom with? Someone in your squad has you covered. Want to get McDonalds but don’t want to go alone? Anyone from your squad will take the trip with you. Need someone to tell you something you’ve been needing to hear but don’t know how to say it? Your squad has your back. Name it and they are there.
Simply put, your squad is your rock— they let you lean on them when you need them most, they laugh with you when all you seem to do is cry, and they make you feel like everything is going to be okay even when your life is a total and complete mess. The great things about squads are that they don’t care how much you weigh, what your relationship status is, or the grade you got in chem; they care about one thing and that one thing is you.
They love you unconditionally, they care about you no matter what, and they take cute pictures with you while doing it. They even do extremely selfless things like sharing their French fries with you because they know you’re supposed to be on a diet but they let you have some because they know they’re your favorite.
They are the ones who will listen to you insistently babble about the same things over and over because they know how important it is for you to say what you need to say. They tell you when you look good and aren’t afraid to tell you to change your outfit. These are the people who will do anything and everything for you, without you even asking. They even learn how to read your mood, which can be a good and a bad thing.
Squads are special, to say the least. I challenge you to realize how special your squad is and to be thankful for your them each and every day. Go get ice cream together, take trips to the neighbor’s house together, and always, always, always take advantage of the time you all have to be together.
P.S. This one is for the woes.
