A Love Letter to Winter Break

Dear Winter Break,

Oh, my sweet, snowy angel. The giver of Netflix binge sessions and shamelessly playing The Sims for five hours with not a trace of guilt. This one is for you, Winter Break. You are the saver of sanity for college students everywhere and you deserve a love letter.

I mean, where do I even begin? Winter Break, I am obsessed with you. You are the only break in the semester where you have nothing to worry about. No projects or readings looming over your head. We are free. Free as a bird for three blissful weeks of pajamas and zero commitments.

Unless you have to work because let's face it, we all need money. Even if you work, that's all you have to focus on. You have no homework to come home to nor club or organization meetings after your shift. The only commitment of your day is a shift which isn't nearly as bad as a class, a shift, a meeting at 8:00 pm, and two hours of homework. Winter Break, you just make life seem so... effortless.

Winter Break, I love you endlessly. You allow me to actually read for pleasure. You gift me the beauty that is free laundry from my parents. You give me the time to focus on the people I love and give me the time to devote to them that they deserve. You let me spend time with my family without the worry of a reading or essay I should be working on.

Winter Break, you are the college equivalent to a cup of really good coffee. Enough to perk you up and leave you ready to begin the semester again with new vigor and longing for your university once again. Your presence is simply unmatched.

Cheers to you, Winter Break. We owe you big time. You will always be my one true break love.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
