A Love Letter To My College Bed

You are more than just a place to rest my head.

Dear Awkward Twin-Size Bed,

I was not very fond of you at first. You are a lot smaller than my normal bed and definitely did not come with a pillow top mattress. You also make squeaky noises when I roll over in the middle of the night which disturbs everyone in the room. Even though I did not initially like you, I have honestly grown to love you.

You see, you are a lot different than my bed at home. My bed at home does not give me a warm embrace after spending hours of memorizing pointless material for an astronomy exam that you will never need again. My bed at home does not hold me after that guy at the bar was a jerk. My bed at home definitely does not provide me a place to nap between classes on a long day. But, you do all of these things for me.

I have made you my own. I've dressed you up with my favorite colors, multiple fluffed pillows and, of course, an abundance of soft blankets. You gave me the opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade and make you my safe-haven.

Well, it worked! I couldn't imagine trying to get through the day without you. If I am having a rough day, knowing that I get to come home and lay in you once it is all over is my true motivation.

But you are so much more than just a bed! You are my study buddy by providing me a cozy work environment to write my paper and get it done. You are my wise mentor who holds me at night if I need to shed some tears about how stressful life is at the moment. Sometimes you are even that friend that peer pressures me into spending the day with you instead of attending to other activities.

As you can see, I am saying that you are more than a place for me to lay my head at night. You are everything I need to get me through college by providing me with sleep, a place to sit and gather with friends and most importantly, a place for me to think about the future and dream about what I want to accomplish in life.

Love,

Your Sleep-Loving Tenant

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
