Dear Sisters,
With recruitment coming up, I thought it would be a perfect time to profess my love to you. I want to share with you, and others, my recruitment story and what made me fall in love with each and every one of you. I think it is important to let you know how much I value you and how much you've improved my life. It has been a lot of hard work, but it has been so worth it.
I first went through recruitment because my freshman year roommate asked me to do it with her. I was so against Greek Life. I had already made up my mind that I was not going to join a sorority. I thought that joining a sorority meant a group of girls would judge me for how I looked and would make my life hell, much like the girls from my high school. But, you didn't. You not once have judged me for the way I look or any other superficial reason. You've given me the confidence to be myself.
Throughout the recruitment process, I was told that I needed to "trust the system". I was told that I would find my home and that I would be happy. I fell in love with a house during recruitment and I was so sure that it was my "forever home". So when I didn't get asked back, I was crushed. It was like a bad break up, but you were there to put me back together, and you weren't even my sisters yet. If I'm being completely honest, you weren't the chapter that I wanted, but you were the chapter that I needed.
Bid Day was an emotional day for me, but it is a day that I will remember forever. You welcomed me with such open arms from the second I got to the house. I remember laughing with you all for hours and everything felt natural, just like my Rho Gammas said it would. From that day forward I have always felt like I was your sister, I've never once felt left out or unloved.
Things have been a constant struggle for me. Grades, getting a little, and my health have been pulling me back and you know this because you've been there for me every step of the way. You've seen me at my lowest point and you still managed to have so much faith in me. When I thought the world was against me, you showed me that it didn't matter because my sisters had my back. You amazing ladies were always my motivation to be better.
Now, because of the love and support that I have received from each and every one of you, I'm blessed with a position in our chapter and last semester I got the best GPA of my college career. You, my amazing sisters, played a role in that. My chapter saved me from myself. You always had faith in me and never gave up on me. In a world where people love to see others fall it's nice to know that my amazing chapter will always love and support me.
Thank you for being my motivation, my hour long phone calls, my lunch dates, my study partners, and most importantly my sisters. Turns out I really did need you and to be honest, I wouldn't want anyone else.
Love Always (SLAM),
Langdon
