A Love Letter to My Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

Love. One word, four letters, one syllable, and the thing that you have taught me the most about. It is the most beautiful thing on earth, it has been since the beginning of time. The greatest stories and the most memorable movies are those encapsulating the love between two people. As a result, it is the thing that we, as human beings, crave the most.

So often, the people who need love the most are the ones who close themselves off to it. You and I are two of those people. We look for the individuals who care enough to break through the thousands of walls we have built around our heart, and only then do we show them the smallest bit of affection.

Though you are a hard nut to crack, I was, and continue to be, lucky enough to see behind those walls. I can honestly say you have the most amazing heart. Yet, there are times I realize that you doubt it. I think that you believe you are not worth loving, and that no one will ever love you for the person you truly are. So, to protect yourself, you put up wall after wall. If I had only one wish for you, it would be for you to tear down your walls and love unconditionally.

Love is not an easy journey. Nothing worth cherishing ever is. However, that doesn’t mean we abandon all hope. I hope that one day you meet someone who makes you forget why you ever doubted in love. Until then, though, my love will have to suffice. Best friend, I love you in the way that a fat kid loves cake. I don’t say it enough, because I too struggle with this concept. However, you and our friendship make me believe in love. I see the way we care for each other and I know that if I can experience this once more in life, I will be set for eternity. Most people search their entire life to find an uninhibited love, which only makes me realize how lucky I am to have you.

I’m not sure there will ever be adequate words to describe the impact you have had on my life. So many people talk about being friends forever, yet their plans always seem to fall through. I am more sure of our friendship than most things in life, and for that reason I KNOW that we will survive the test of time. At this point, so much of you is part of me that we couldn’t really be separated if we wanted too. You truly are my other half. If I ever chose to spend my life with someone, my husband/boyfriend will have to accept that you own part of my heart as well. You have been through it all with me, and that is not something I take lightly. We’ve seen each other at our best and worst, and still chose to stick around.

I don’t know why you chose me to be your friend, but I will never question it. I’m afraid if I did, you would see the weirdo I am and run for the hills. I love you endlessly. Should you ever need a reminder, call me, text me, show up at my doorstep. I will never turn you away. I will be by your side always and forever. You are my person.

Love,

the eternal pain in your butt, your other half, & your friend for life

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
