Dear Mornings,
You may be surprised I’m writing to you. You might be even more surprised I am writing to you out of adoration. Yes, you read that correctly. I think you are extraordinary.
Night seems to get all the attention these days. Dusk fills the skies with a wondrous painting of warm colors, music gets louder and people get a little braver under its mischievous cloak of darkness. I won’t lie, I have had my fair share of fun with your moonlit colleague. Sooner or later, though, I inevitably drift to sleep and awaken in your presence.
As night shifts end, you ever so silently slip into position. Keeping the world peacefully quiet as we rest, recuperate and let our minds dream.
Coaxing the sun from its slumber, you sprinkle the world with water and make everything appear shiny and new. You, Morning, remind us that today is a new day. A brand-spanking-new day, completely different than the previous. You serve us a platter of fresh starts and endless opportunity, ours for the taking. In addition to a fresh cup of coffee, of course. I swear, nothing tastes better than a steaming cup of coffee with you by my side. Don’t mention this to Night for care of his feelings, but coffee during his time on the clock just isn’t the same.
You routinely and swiftly cut the strings attached to the most recent past. You do this humbly, without aggression nor in pursuit of denial. Ongoing projects and problems continue to exist but for a fleeting moment your dawn encourages me to take a deep breath and realign for the day. I cherish this moment as it keeps me sane, inspired and ambitious. Thank you, Morning, for consistently providing me with such an occasion.
My friends are always saying how much you irk them. “Ugh, it’s too early, loud, and unpleasant,” they say. Me? I’m excited and energized by your presence. Therefore, I’m commonly known as one of those crazy morning people. I regularly provoke a chorus of “How are you smiling at this hour?” and “why are you talking so much?” when I walk into an early meeting or when I see my friends long before lunch time. Come to think of it, my friends are probably much more annoyed at my constant chattiness rather than yourself. My bad.
Morning, you have been my favorite time of day for many years now. I think more clearly, am fully energized, and feel like I can take the world by storm whenever your around. People usually give me questioning or concerned looks when I try explain it to them. But I don’t care what they think, I’ll scream it from the rooftops: “I’m a morning person and proud of it!”
I live for the sunrises, breakfast food, divine coffee, morning dew, quiet stillness, fresh markets, and all the other wonderful things you support. Thank you for your relentless support and ability to always prepare me for the day. I couldn’t imagine a world without you.
Sincerely,
Your Biggest Fan
