A Love Letter To Netflix

Don't act like this isn't the best relationship you've ever had.

Dear Netflix,

Wow, where do I even begin? I remember when my family first signed up for you back in 2010. It was Christmas, and it was by far my favorite gift that year. I still remember the first movie I ever watched when I got you. You know how you know certain memories in detail like the birth of your first child, your wedding day, etc? That’s how I feel about the first day I spent with you.

As time went by you just got better and better. I loved watching you progress and grow. New movies and shows were being added every month, and I before I knew it, I had gone through hundreds of movies and racked up dozens and dozens of TV series into "My List".

Then you did the unexpected and started creating your own originals and the undying love grew bigger than the Grinch’s heart did. You captivated the world’s attention and focus for the past few years and there is no inclination of it ever stopping. Gosh, you make me so proud!

Out of class, work, studying, cleaning, exercising, eating, everything I do in a day, I spend more time with you than I do the rest combined. But you knew that already.

You are my one true happy place, and I mean that. When I am upset, I go to you. When I am happy, I go to you. When I am avoiding life, I go to you. And most of all, when I have any kind of school work to do, I go to you. You can make me forget about anything, including class, work, or that I have pizza rolls in the oven.

The thing I love about you the most is that you’ve been there with me for a big chunk of my life, and I know you’ll never leave me. Right? No matter what is happening, at the end of the day I am always excited about laying down to sleep next to you. I don't need anyone else in my life as long as you are in it.

You even remember all my favorite shows and movies. And you suggest the perfect things for me to watch, I don’t know even know how you do it! You know me so well!

I cannot wait to see all the things you do in the future, I’m sure they will be amazing.

Love,

Me

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
