To those feeling hopeless or alone, threatened or disheartened,
This is a love letter from us to you. From voices from all around the country. A reminder that you are not alone. That together, we will pull through. That the world has not ended, that the fight will continue, that we will fight for you, beside you, and we will never stop listening to you. You matter. You are important. This letter is for you.
First, take a deep breath. It's okay to feel the way you are feeling.
"No matter who you are, you are loved and respected for just being you." Love, Kamala
"Don't let people say that what you're feeling right now is wrong. It's not unreasonable to be anxious, to fear for this country and our place in the world, to have an overwhelming sense of sadness, even rage. That's how grieving works - it is manifested in myriad ways - and just know that you're not alone." Love, Sarah
"You alone have to the right to how you feel and who you are. No one should and can take that away from you." Love, Elena
"I know that it is a hard time for you, but I feel for you. Be calm and hopeful. Don't let that idiot ruin your smile." Love, Ploy
"Life doesn't necessarily give you what you want but it always gives you what you need. Always look for the silver lining. Always." Love, Kathy
Right now more than ever, we need to unite. It is not too late.
"You are love. I am love. We are all love. And if we embrace this truth and use it to come together as one, we can truly change the world. We all have the power through the decisions and purchases we make each day, as well as the words we speak, to transform this world into one where we can not only be proud and happy to live but also a world where all living beings are radiant with the joy and love that we embody each day." Love, Laura
"In this hemisphere of hate it is beyond important to surround yourself with unwavering love and friendship." Love, Harrison
"I want those feeling hopeless to know that I and millions of others around the world are feeling hopeless too, but if we can turn those feelings of despair into feelings of triumph and optimism, even in the darkest of days, then I am sure love will trump hate every single time." Love, Christina
"Walking through the park this morning I looked up and saw a white pigeon (also known as a rock dove) dead center on the Washington Square Arch. No matter who you supported, this election has unquestionably exposed how deep the fissures run in America. It feels like a day of mourning in New York City, but maybe we all did need a reminder to take a deep breath and listen to each other. If you fought for the campaign whose slogan was 'Love Trumps Hate' then now would be a good time to start tapping into that love and finding other ways to fight for it. Regardless of your political opinions I think we can all agree on that." - Love, Amanda
You are not alone. You are never alone.
"To all of my amazing friends struggling right now, don't forget that I love you and I am here for you." Love, Kiah
"Don't panic because we're all here with you and we love you just the way you are." Love, Lucy
"For those feeling alone, know that there will always be someone who understands what you're feeling and will be there to stand with you. For those feeling afraid, know that there are people who are fighting for you. Let that uplift you." Love, Madison
"I will never stop fighting for you. I am saddened by the hatred of the world. But, there are laws in place and when the world takes a sharp turn down I will take a sharp turn up and fight for the people who need it. I've never met you but I believe in you, your allure, your talents and your bravery. You might not ever meet me but through our thoughts and actions we will meet in love." Love, Hannah
Continue to spread love wherever you go. Continue to stand up for yourself and for other people in the face of injustice.
"Even though the election results were not what you hoped for, hatred of anyone is not good for a person. It eats away at you. Learning to cope with situations we are not happy about is important but that doesn't mean to sit back and do nothing. We will try to do what's good, right and kind." Love, Billie
"Now, more than ever, is the time for art and acceptance and love." Love, Alyssa
Be PROUD of who you are.
"This is about more than just one election. This is about the future, and what we as Americans hold dear. I am proud to be surrounded by loved ones who support my right not only to exist, but to love freely and openly, who support inclusion, equal rights and basic human decency. Let this be the impetus for our generation to mobilize." Love, Seth
"There has been much written lately about the baby boomer generation being the "worst generation ever," and the millennials being "lazy and entitled," but I have to disagree. I think the baby boomers, for the most part, "taught their children well," and that as a result, millennials are the most compassionate, tolerant, open-minded, and empathetic generation in our country's history. That gives me tremendous hope for our country's future." Love, Jeanne
And finally, love yourself and those around you. Love, love, love.
"Be good to yourself. You deserve it. Be kind to the people around you. They deserve it. Yes, anger and sadness are justified and reasonable reactions right now, but so is love. Love, for yourself and for others, is always justified and reasonable." Love, Sophie
We are here, we hear you, and we will never stop the fight.
With love, from all of us.
