As everyone has seen, Gaga has become quite apparent in today's news. For many reasons, in past news, Lady Gaga got media exposure for all of the wrong reasons and in all of the wrong ways. Due to this media exposure, Gaga, as a person, isn't appreciated as much as she could and should be.
So here are some reasons why we should appreciate her more:
Gaga blatantly supports being yourself
While in the beginning she was this crazily dressed woman talking about "disco sticks" and bad romances, she also absolutely supported being the person you are. She actively supports being an individual and accepting yourself as you are. Not only does she support being yourself, but she supports being completely yourself. As in, she supports the entire LGBT community.
Her hit song "Born This Way" topped charts around the world because she encouraged the message that being gay, bi, lesbian or transgendered is not a choice. She gave others an uplifting message telling them they shouldn't hate themselves for being who they are.
Gaga supports Ke$ha
In recent news, we've seen the court case of Ke$ha. We've seen where she stood against a man who allegedly raped and mentally abused her and was told by a judge that because this man invested money in her, what happened to her wasn't really valid enough to be released from a contract.
Even more infuriating, we see Dr. Luke pitifully trying to defend himself via Twitter. In all of this madness, Gaga (as well as many other celebrities) stood with Ke$ha. She Snapchatted, Tweeted, Facebooked and so much more to let Ke$ha know that she whole-heartedly supported her. She didn't curse anyone or throw any 'shade' anywhere. She simply wanted Ke$ha to know that she was there. That she stood with her and understood her.
Gaga supports other survivors
As we saw at the Oscars, Gaga brought 50 sexual assault/rape survivors on stage with her during her tear-jerking performance of "'Till It Happens To You". Fifty of these people stood with Gaga as she poured her soul out on stage with various things written on their arms like "survivor."
Not only did she uplift these people at one of the largest events in television, but she made a pact with them. She created an entire movement with them. She even got matching tattoos with all of these 50 survivors in beautiful solidarity. Due to her tremendous support, more and more celebrities are being influenced to come forward and speak on their abuse.
Lady Gaga refuses to be a tool for the media
During her music career, Gaga realized she didn't like some of the things people were asking her to do. So what did she do? She told them no. Gaga refused to do things that went against her morals. She spoke about it saying that she wanted to do things that made her happy and supported her beliefs.
Lately, she's been acting. She's been giving talks about standing up for what you believe in. She has been talking about finding your own creativity and getting what you want out of life. She gives the media nothing anymore to fuel a negative fire, only a positive fire.
She is truly herself
Like I said, she's only been giving them fuel for a positive media movement. Her new music is about real things and real issues. Not sex, drugs and all of the bad raunchiness that has seemingly been sought in the music industry. She's stopped talking about disco sticks and bad romances and has started talking about how you'll never truly understand something bad until it's happened to you. She does everything she can to put out a positive message for her "little monsters."
For me, and so many others, Lady Gaga is what I hope all celebrities aspire to be. They shouldn't be someone they're not. Not at all, but they should strive to uplift their fans and put out positive messages. While I perceived her as a joke in the beginning, she has been progressively teaching me about creativity, positivity and morality. She has taught me that I should never compromise what I believe to make someone else happy. She has taught me that no matter what happens, you can do it. She has taught me that just because someone doesn't like what I'm doing doesn't mean I should stop my creative flow. I hope the rest of you can take away the same message.
Thank you, Mother Monster.
