There are a lot of things in the world that get you down and stress you out that you just want to forget, but there are also tons and tons of experiences and moments in your life that you want to remember forever. Whether you want to forget or want to remember, I have the perfect thing for you: journaling.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Do people even journal anymore?" The answer is yes. People are still journaling and recording things from their most precious memories to their worst nightmares. Journaling is still going strong and has actually been gaining some momentum throughout the past couple of years. Starting a journal is easier than people think with the right motivation and supplies.
The first thing to consider when you start journaling is what to write in. There are a lot of different options to choose from, and it can get really overwhelming, but it is all up to you and your personal preference. You can write in a spiral notebook, a bound journal, paperback or a hardback book. It really is all up to you and what you prefer to write in. In my personal opinion, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a fancy journal if it is your first time trying it out. I suggest to start cheaper with a book from Walmart or Target, and I wouldn't spend more than $10 on it. Another tip for picking out a journal is to keep it small. Unless you are an avid writer and are comfortable with writing pages upon pages, there is no need for you to buy a book with 400 pages in it. All that will do is discourage you from writing. If you start in a smaller book, you will most likely finish sooner, and there is nothing like the sense of accomplishment that you get from completely filling up a journal.
The next confounding question associated with journaling is what to write about. That is wholly up to you. You can literally write about anything. When I journal, I write about my day and how I'm feeling. I have just started my current journal now that the school year has started, and so far most of my entries have been about the excitement of college and how different my life has become. The possibilities are endless when it comes to journaling. If you don't really like writing, you can also art journal. It is a great way to relieve stress and to express yourself. You can be artsy and fully express yourself with colorful pictures and drawings, or you can write to your heart's content.
Journaling has been in my life since I was a little girl, and it has helped me through some very tough situations. It is a form of self-expression and relief that I love to do and want to share with others. There are no limits to what you can do with a pen and paper, and journals are here to hold those experiences and memories forever.
