This past week, I was in a situation where I was told that I did not matter when it came to medical things for my girlfriend. Was it because of my being a lesbian, was the person racist, or was it because of where we were?
It definitely hurt my feelings to hear someone say that, as I've watched enough TV shows and been through life enough to know that I actually do matter, girlfriend or other. Why do people judge so much? I, nor anyone else in this world can help who they love, yet we find all too often that were getting crucified for the love that we have for another person.
Being a lesbian is not a man-made choice, no one made us like that. Therefore, others words, actions or feelings towards we love should not break us to make us think otherwise. But it definitely stings a little when you have others that we need to interact with making us feel like who we love is wrong.
Sometimes, I just want to ask them to define wrong, have you ever done anything in your life that would be considered morally wrong? I'm sure you have, did you have someone making you feel like the dirt on the bottom of their shoe because of the wrong that you did. Are you still here to talk about it? Have you gotten over it? I'm sure you'll answer these questions knowing that you've made it through life doing things that sometimes, you would not even see as wrong, therefore how could you make a fellow human being feel as if the choices in our life are wrong?
Especially, when it comes to love. It is already not enough of it in this world that turning your nose up towards a lesbian or gay man should make you ashamed of yourself. There are so many people practicing hate that whenever you see someone experiencing the type of love that everyone should deserve, that you should at the very least appreciate it, even if done so silently.
I am not asking everyone in this world to accept gay men and lesbians, but if you have negative thoughts or opinions, it is best to keep them to yourself. Let us love in what way we choose, it is our right. Don't snatch it up from us.
