Take a second to remember those times you hated writing. If your experience was anything like mine, you were ready to throw some stuff around. I can recall sitting at my desk for three hours trying to create something worth reading, and it sucked.
These moments can ruin any confidence you may have and make you want to quit writing. You mean it this time, you are going to quit. Then, you get an idea and start writing like you won't be alive tomorrow.
The relationship between a writer and his or her craft is infuriating. I like to think of it as a healthy obsession. Once words start to flow, there is almost no way to stop the stream of creativity oozing from your pores.
You fall in love with the story your telling. You can't wait to share this amazing masterpiece with the world. This is what makes you love writing.
Then, you have to deal with the drama writing brings you. Those moments when you argue with yourself about word choice or sentence structure; When you have to edit and find everything wrong with your writing.
At this point, if the writing was a person, you would fight it. An activity that can be so simple sometimes becomes your worst enemy. You hate it for a little while.
Now your back to that thought of quitting. You will not write anymore. Once again, you lied to yourself and are starting another writing project.
No matter how difficult writing is you can't quit. You already knew you lied to yourself when you thought about it.
You are not alone. There are a lot of people who feel the same way you do about writing. It's a love-hate relationship.
