The holidays are great. You get to see your family members that you haven't seen in awhile, get into some heated debates and watch family members get a bit too tipsy. I love my family and I love being able to see them and spend some great quality time with them.
However, I have never been a fan of the traditional Thanksgiving meal. The traditional mashed potatoes with gravy and turkey with stuffing and string beans is my least favorite meal. Actually no, stew is my least favorite, but the Thanksgiving meal is my least favorite meal that has to happen every year.
Everyone in the family who makes the food, does a great job in making the food. They are all excellent chefs. But I've never liked turkey, especially from the bone. There's just something about chewing or even cutting meat from the bone that really grosses me out. This is also one of the reasons why I became a vegetarian. In addition, I've never been a huge mashed potato person either! I don't know why. I want to like mashed potatoes, I'll eat them, but they are just not my favorite thing in the world.
Even though I consider myself a pretty picky eater, I also love food, which I know sounds like an oxymoron. But I love how it brings people together and connects us. No matter what drama is going on in the family, we put aside our differences and enjoy each others' company. And that's what Thanksgiving is about, right? Being thankful for what you have and the people in your life. Sometimes we can take these things for granted, but it's important to take a step back and really be grateful for what you have.
So as you can see, I love how Thanksgiving brings people together and lets us be thankful, but I really dislike the food.
