You’ve got to love a gamer. And here’s why

If life lessons can be taken from the movies, then we all know the sort of guy that a girl wants to date. The sporty, slightly dangerous bad boy always gets the girl, right? And as for the gamer – well, you'd never give a nerd like that a second look.

You’ve got to love a gamer. And here’s why

Of course, life seldom imitates art, and if that particular gamer image was ever true, it belongs more in the pages of history than the present day. Gaming, and gamers, have come a long way since the 1980s. Here's why all the smart girls – and boys – should consider dating a gamer.

Gamers are smart

That might sound like a sweeping generalization, but it is based on sound scientific research. A paper by the US Department of Defense revealed that people who play video games have above average intelligence. Whether it is digging into problem-solving games like Final Fantasy or assessing the odds before playing Casino euro slots online, there is plenty of mental dexterity involved in playing games successfully. That puts gamers in a great position to achieve success in life.

Gamers know about space

No, not space in the sense of defeating alien hordes with laser cannons and saving the universe, but space as in time to yourself. Gamers are very seldom needy or clingy. They appreciate the value of time alone, and are unlikely to be jealous if you sometimes want to do your own thing – just as long as you leave them in peace to do theirs. Sounds like heaven!

Gamers are imaginative

You'll never be bored dating a gamer. All that time spent in cyberspace exploring parallel dimensions and alternative realities really gives the imagination a chance to run riot. It also allows gamers to see the magic and potential in everyday things. Date a gamer and you, too, will have the opportunity to see the world in a new light.

Gamers love tech

t sounds obvious, but here's the thing. Back in the 80s, tech was for geeks. Today, tech affects everything we do, whether at work, rest or play. A dedicated gamer will have the latest and greatest tech, from laptops to speakers to gaming chairs. Maybe even a headset for exploring virtual worlds in 3D. Not only do they own the tech, though, they understand it, too. When your phone or laptop does something screwy, nine times out of ten, a gamer will know how to find the solution. Your very own tech support? Why not?

Gamers don't give up

Gamers know about patience, and they appreciate that achieving their long term goals is not always going to be easy. They understand that it will require persistence, dedication and learning from mistakes or false starts. Doesn't that sound like a fantastic attitude to carry through life? If you know deep down that you can be a little difficult to get along with, a gamer is not going to throw in the towel and walk away at the first sign of trouble.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
