Why I Will Always Love Frozen

And the lessons it has taught me.

Why I Will Always Love Frozen

If you ask anybody who knows me, they will tell you that I love three things: Taylor Swift, owls, and Frozen.

Frozen has slowly become my favorite Disney movie and I consider myself to be Elsa. There are many reasons why I love this movie. Not only does it have an amazing soundtrack, it has a few wonderful lessons it teaches us, and I feel like I can relate to Elsa.

1. You don't need a man to be successful in life.

Elsa is a strong, independent woman. She becomes Queen of Arendelle and rules her kingdom without a man by her side. The citizens of Arendelle love Elsa. The opening of the gates of Arendelle is symbolic of Elsa opening her heart. Also, Elsa accepts who she is and discovers how to control her powers all without needing a man's help. Elsa embraces her true self and even before you can love a man, you need to be able to love yourself. And even though Elsa never has a man in the movie, the idea of being yourself, and knowing you can be independent woman is a good lesson any girl needs to hear.

2. Don't give away your heart so easily.

Anna meets Hans early on in the movie on Coronation Day. Hans is the first guy Anna has met that is her age in years. She believes that he is destined to marry her and sure they "finish each other's sandwiches." But as Elsa points out, she barely knows the guy. It's a good thing that Anna did not end up marry Hans because we later learn that all he wants is to be the King of Arendelle and kill Elsa. The lesson to be learned here is to guard your heart, protect your emotions, and get to know the guy you are thinking about dating. It can save your heart from being broken later on.

3. You may find the love of your life in the most unexpected of places.

Once Anna goes looking for Elsa, she meets Kristoff. At first Anna is adamant about being loyal to Hans. But Kristoff, like Elsa, points out that she barely even knows the guy. This probably isn't what Anna wanted to hear, but it's the truth. Anna realizes later on, that she actually likes Kristoff when he comes to her rescue from the evil Prince Hans. And from then on, they are destined to be together. The lesson here, keep your heart open, you may never know what or who you'll find.

4. In the end, your family is going to be there for you and help you through tough times.

Then at the end, we discover only "an act of true love" can save Anna. And of course everybody assumes that Kristoff is the one that has to kiss Anna to save her. But PLOT TWIST, sisterly love is true love too and it is powerful enough to save Anna. This kind of love has never really been addressed by Disney like this and it is really eye opening. It also ties back to my first point about not needing a man. Elsa saved Anna's life because of her sisterly love. Lesson to be learned here: romantic love isn't the only kind of love that matters, familial love matters too.

I love Frozen because it is a very non-traditional Disney Princess movie. It is empowering for girls of all ages and there are many valuable things to be learned from this movie. I relate to this movie because I feel like I struggle sometimes with not having a man or I know that I would do anything to save my sisters' lives. Frozen is a wonderful movie with awesome lessons. This movie deserves all of the attention it has been getting because it breaks the traditional Disney Princess mold and shows us that every kind of love matters. Also, who doesn't love Olaf and Sven
