Love Is A Four Letter Verb

The concept of love has become twisted by society. Love is selfish and greedy. Love is vain and insecure. Love is dramatic and petty. Love means meeting someone’s needs while they neglect yours. Love is strictly physical and brings temporary happiness. Love only lasts for a time-- a short time.

But what if none of this is true, and everything we've learned about love is a disastrous fairy tale?

The Word of God is a message of hope, unlike the desperate story society tells. There’s got to be something that changes the idea of love from a message of fruitlessness to hope.

Look into the eyes of the Savior.

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Learning to truly love and be loved can be the hardest journey one ever takes, yet the most rewarding. Sometimes people make the discouraging mistake of thinking love is something that can be achieved or earned. They’re fighting a losing battle. The one way to love and be loved is to meet Love Himself.

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16

To know love, let God show you just how much He loves you. To know how to love, love God, and the rest will fall into place. His love is so pure, so sweet, so enduring and so contagious.

Love is a gift from our Heavenly Father. I finally got a glimpse of what real love is when I looked to Love Himself. From there, I saw how that love spills over into every area of my life. I could never truly love without knowing who love is. Knowing Love means seeing the ones you love as God does. You see their heart and their true being, rather than who you've made them out to be. Best of all, you see their love for the Lord. If you're both loving through the Lord, that love lasts for a lifetime.

Stop letting the world tell you what love is. Stop letting the world tell you what you need in love. Stop letting the world tell you who needs to love you and how they need to love you. Seek the Lord. Read His Word. Understand how much He loves you. Then don’t be surprised when your idea of love is completely redefined.

When you meet Love face to face, you stop looking for love in all the wrong places. Actively seek the Lord and let Him redefine love in your life. Don’t sit around and wait for love. Read the Word of God, seek Him with everything in you and let Him show you who Love is.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
