As a strong believer in the creative mind, I think that talent and art have a deep impact on a person’s attitudes, thinking, personality and overall, their well-being. Most people think that a showcase piece or a workshopped photo are as trivial and simple to make as any other. However, being an artist for so many years, I understand the importance of the hours and days that go behind a project. There are different thought processes, inspirations and commitment that go into completing a work of art.
For most of my life, I have been so enthused about learning new techniques and ways to create art. I remember that even in 3rd or 4th grade, I used to be the first kid to rush into the line to walk down to the art room for class. Being inspired and fascinated with art has given me the ability to express myself so freely that I probably would never be able to with my words. After growing up and coming to high school, art has given me the ability to power down my brain and not think so hard. While taking many rigorous classes in school, art class was a way to release all the built-up stress and worry that I had in my day. Furthermore, in high school, I had an awesome teacher that helped me hone my skills and taught me about many different art forms. Because of my dedicated years to her learning, I now enjoy working with a variety of media, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, scratchboard, photography, and crafts!
Ever since I was a little girl, my parents believed that a sense of art as well as a strong education can give a person a well-rounded eye to judge their daily problems and approach them from a more unique perspective. They believed that my siblings and I should have different hobbies as well as do great in school because this can give us a passion in life that we can rely on in times of stress and anxiety. I agree with this now and see that there have been some instances in my life where I was an individual thinker of one opinion compared to others. I’ve used my art as a way to get through some hard times of my life and it provides a great escape. Working on any of my pieces bring me a sense of happiness, calm and relives my worries. I’m in my space and I’m not answerable to anyone, have no jobs or responsibilities, just me and my imagination. Personally, I think art can give individuals so many gifts, but the most important is freedom! It brings a strong will of individuality and the daring to live and think, outside of the box!
