The fashion department at Stephens College is by far the best one I’ve ever heard of. I’ve always loved fashion, but when I was a senior in high school, I was stressing about where I was going to attend college because when you say you intend to major in fashion, everyone assumes you mean fashion design. The reason I was stressing was because I knew that’s not what I wanted to do, but I very much wanted to work in fashion. My problem was that I couldn’t find a school (at least not one that wasn’t located in New York City) that had what I was looking for.
Then, I found Stephens College. The amount of relief that washed over me when I read what degrees they offered was unreal. Not only did they offer Fashion Design, but also Fashion Marketing and Management and Fashion Communications. I quickly scheduled a visit and a few months later, I got to see Stephens College for the very first time. My parents and I all immediately fell in love with it. I was so excited that I could now get a degree in Fashion and work on the editing/business side of fashion.
I’ve been attending classes at Stephens for the past 3 months, and it would be an understatement to say that I’m impressed with how they teach and prepare their students for their futures. Fashion majors are immediately put into classes dealing with exactly what their degrees are centered around. Fashion Design majors get to take sewing, drawing, and patternmaking classes, Fashion Communication majors get to take media classes like graphic design and more, and Fashion Marketing and Management majors get to take strategic business classes, all right off the bat. This is one of my many favorite things about Stephens College: you immediately get to experience what you’re major has to offer instead of only taking basics for your first two years of school.
