Don’t get me wrong, I am a strong believer, however, it may not be the same beliefs everyone has. Actually, very few probably believe the same way I do. And I am here to talk about the touchy subject which is still over discriminated: homosexuality. Homosexuals are either applauded or categorized as inferior, monstrous, inhuman beings of society. And why is that? “The bible says same-sex interaction/marriage is wrong.” However, should that impact how humans get treated? This isn’t 500 BC where people get stoned (with rocks versus weed) to death for being different. This is the 20th century where differences are eulogized. People all over are searching for themselves and their individuality, however, when millions of people find that comfort within themselves, the outside world tells them they are wrong. All due to this quote from the old testament of the bible, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination,” (Leviticus 18:22). But that can be interpreted so many different ways. There has been an on-going debate of the meaning behind this quote, and many of the people who claim the bible states same-sex interaction/marriage is wrong have never read that quote, or have proof to back up their claim. They are discriminating based on trust in others without figuring out their own beliefs in separation from that.
Christians all over the world have been saying for years now, “Jesus is coming back soon, be ready,” while deliberately dehumanizing those who are different, without remembering a quote from Hebrew 8:13, “In that he saith, a new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.” Stating: things will change. The world will changes. Laws will change. And as many people of society would love to believe homosexuality is a new thing, it was around in the time of Jesus’ life as well, “even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones; in the same way, men committed shameful acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error,” (Romans 1:26-27). And if you are a strong Bible-goer, you’d maybe agree with me that things have changed, and laws have overgrown their time of alterations and homosexual people should not be discriminated against anymore. I believe strongly that God ranks this verse above the rest, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31). So why is it so easy to walk down the street and judge others, and treat them as if they are lesser than you for having a different image of love? They have goals. They have dreams. They are go-getters. They are lovers. They have fears and imperfections. They are human. And I believe they should not be treated any differently. They are people just like you and me, to whom should not be treated as lesser for their image of love.
God never said “Your opinion of others and their choices should alter how you treat them,” He said, “love them as you love yourself.” You shouldn’t make a pros and cons list and see how their morals rank up to yours, and treat them differently based on such. Yet, love. Without discrimination. Without outside opinions. You want to fall in love, just as they do. You have dreams and goals, just like they do. You ache for acceptance in your individuality such as they do. And although laws have passed, and have changed to accept them into society, they are still discriminated against daily. This world needs to love one another without discrimination of others before obtaining peace, or a greater tomorrow. This world needs to understand differences in era, beliefs, and morality with acceptance for everyone. This world needs to understand love did not come with a rulebook determining who should be loved and how they receive such love.
