Why I Love The City Life

It's not for everyone, but it's for me

Why I Love The City Life
Kassidy Wyman

Not one day is ever the same in the city, and that’s what I love. I love not knowing when you’re going to catch someone yelling at a car before they almost get hit, sprinting to a bus stop so they don’t miss their ride home, dressed up walking down the streets to go out to the theater shows and the different people you casually pass on your way to wherever you’re going. Every day is different and that’s all part of the excitement. Faster pace, exciting new places to eat everywhere, sports central and people from all over the world are all the things that make life in the city better than anywhere else.

Walking down the streets at night, the lights become more than what they are. As you look up the sparkle of office lights make the city feel more crowded and exhilarating. Almost as if you had been looking at the city from a distance you would feel as though you were missing out on something where those lights are shining. Without them, the city would be bare, dark and lonely.

The wind from buses blows through your hair as you stand on the curb waiting for the silhouette of a person to light up so you can cross. The constant honking of cars moving through traffic with no patience. Valet guys with their jackets running down the block to retrieve expensive cars for guests. Zip cars, Ubers, Lyfts, and taxis sprinkled all over the city waiting for their next customer. You also see the dim lights on top of the inclines and subway trains moving across the tracks to their next stop. Traffic is a major part of everyone’s everyday life in the city, but it also is a puzzle piece to the many things that make city life interesting.

One thing that stays the same are the buildings you pass walking down the street. They will always be there even if who is inside them changes. The different shades of black and gray steel buildings with floors and floors of windows that look out across the hustle and bustle of the streets. The blocks of brick buildings that have stayed standing for decades that add the vintage feel of the city bring the past and present together. Wherever you go there will always be a beautiful view to look at no matter if you’re standing in the dead center of downtown or looking at the city skyline from a distance.

City life isn’t for everyone but for those who love it I hope you are able to relate to the things I love about it. There’s always something to do, someone to meet, a great new place to eat, and a new adventure to explore.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
