Why I Love Being Apart Of the Central College Dance Team

Have you ever had a week that just makes you appreciate life and the people in your life a bit more? This was me last week. Last week we lost an alumni member of the Central College Dance Team and it was a hard week, it shook me up and made me put things into perspective and made me appreciate my dance family even more. Sometime I really take for granted not only the precious gift of dance, but also the amazing family that comes along with dance.

College Dance Team reaches a whole new level of the word family. They are not just my really good friends, but I love them like my family. We go through high and lows together, when one has a bad day, we all feel their pain and when one of us has a good day, we all rejoice with them. Family never gives up on each other, always supports and encourages one another, and will do anything to help each other. We are not all the same, but our differences make us stronger and closer.

None dancers do not understand the bond a dance team has, it is special and unique. You are one team with one dream and together you can tackle and accomplish anything you put your mind to. I am so incredibly lucky and thankful to be apart of the Central College Dance team and have those girls' not only as friends but also family, not only now, but forever!

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
