Saturday night I slept in my "Love is Love" t-shirt and woke up on Sunday to awful news. The report at the time was that 20 innocent people had died in the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. An hour later this information changed to 50 people killed and another 53 injured. I was deeply saddened and horrified that this was the largest mass shooting in American history. It is so sad that mass shootings have become common in the news. Each time I think, how many more shootings will there be before this comes to an end?
There are a million things that could be written about mass shootings, and the politics of how we should try to stop them and what should be done. But I am awful with politics and laws so I will save that for someone else to write about. Instead I will write about love. Because this world could use a lot more love.
I've always been a supporter of gay rights. My philosophy is, the more love the better. So of course we should praise people for loving whoever it is they want to love. I think it is a lot of people's goals in life to find someone to fall in love with and nothing should stop anyone from finding love. The way I see it is if I want to love someone I want everyone to be able to love someone. They should be able to be whoever they want and love whoever they want without fear of someone else disapproving of it or hating them for it. I cannot even fathom how someone could hate someone for loving someone.
The thing that is needed most in this world is love. So I would never stop someone from showing their love and expressing themselves as who they are. America is filled with so much diversity. It is my favorite thing about America, but my least favorite thing about America is the lack of respect that is shown toward those who are seen as "different" or are part of minorities. Whether someone is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, black, white, latino, Asian, male, female, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or any other "label" you can think of to describe a person, we are all still human. We are human's who love, and we should love and accept one another despite anything that we may think separates us from one another.
Vice President Biden said it best in his statement, "The violence is not normal, and the targeting of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans is evil and abhorrent."
I pray for all the victims of this terrible event and I pray for their families during this time. I send my love to them all and all those that are afraid of not being accepted just how they are.
Let's celebrate our differences, we are all unique individuals and we are all equal. Love is Love. People are People. We all deserve happiness, so the more love, the better.
