10 Things To Love About Love
Personal

Love: a singular word that resonates with all people. Love is one of the most powerful forces present in our lives, and everybody has the ability to love and to be loved. How cool is that? You have the power to love somebody; to care about them, grow in friendship with them, and sacrifice for them. I think that love is just about the greatest thing ever, because you can love everything and everybody to some extent. So, in honor of Valentine's Day, here are some things that I love about love.

1. It allows you to see the world in a brand new light.

Whether you fall in love, form a new friendship, or simply grow in appreciation and understanding of something, your worldview changes. You begin to see the beauty and goodness in the world around you.

2. It is universal.

Everyone can love and experience love. Everyone. There is not one person on this planet that is incapable of experiencing love, and that is truly beautiful.

3. It shows you who you are.

Love is extremely revealing. Who/what you love is an indication of who you are, and we often learn more about ourselves from our loving relationships and friendships.

4. It heals even the deepest wounds.

Love should never be underestimated for its healing power. Love is stronger than pain, hurt, sadness, and all other feelings which combat our well-being. Love nourishes us at our core and rejuvenates us when we need it most.

5. It fills your life with joy.

Love shines light into all aspects of life and brightens our existence; it is an infinite source of happiness.

6. It changes your heart.

When you truly love someone, the focuses of your heart become centered around them, and what you can do to love them better.

7. It is unexpected and unpredictable.

You don’t always know that you will end up loving somebody. Some of the best friendships and relationships are those that come out of nowhere, yet significantly impact your life.

8. It helps you discover your full potential.

You don’t always realize the great things that you are capable of, yet someone you love has this ability to help you realize what you can achieve.

9. It is present even when we are unaware.

We don’t always feel loved, but it is constantly around us and working within us. We should take solace in knowing that love surrounds us at all times whether we notice it or not.

10. It makes every sacrifice worth it

Love is something people risk their lives for. People give of their time, money, and energy for those that they love on a daily basis. Loving is a selfless act, and that’s why it’s so powerful.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
