Things I Love About The 80s
King of Wall Papers

According to the cliché, history often repeats itself. According to Allure magazine, 2017 will be the second coming of the 1980s! From movies to music to fashion, this iconic decade seems to be one of the primary influences of culture today. The 80s is my personal favorite decade, so I'm super excited for it to make a comeback! Here are 7 of the things that I love about the 80s!

1. The colorful fashion

Whether it be in movies set during the time or on 80s day during spirit weeks, I love seeing all the vibrant, eye-catching neon colors that were so prominent in the decade!

2. The big hair

My own hair could never achieve this type of volume, so I've always been envious of the big, fabulous hairstyles of the 80s.

3. Classic movies

Se many classics came out of the 80s: Grease, When Harry Met Sally..., Back to the Future, The Karate Kid, Uncle Buck, Flashdance, E.T., and The Breakfast Club to name a few of my personal favorites.

4. Molly Ringwald

Building off of my love of 80s films, I love Molly Ringwald. She's such a strong, beautiful, talented actress, and she always made such a statement with each of her characters. If I had to watch one movie on repeat for the rest of my life, Pretty in Pink would easily be my first choice.

5. The epic beats

Music of the 80s was very dependent on the synthesizer, which is one of the things that made it so good. The synth craze made for some great dance beats.

6. The rock music

My parents' love of classic rock was passed on to me, and many of my favorite classics come from the 80s. My playlists include hits by KISS, Bon Jovi, and Journey to name a few. My first concert showcased another 80s giant - Aerosmith!

7. The exercise craze

Jane Fonda's workout tapes gave women a new outlook on self-image. For the first time, women worked to get the bodies that they wanted, not the ones they were told would catch the eye of a man or get them on the cover of a magazine. The fitness craze in the 80s was a big step in the development of female strength - both physical and emotional.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
