Demi Lovato Body Shames Women

I thought she was against body shaming, I guess not.

It takes a lot to get me up in arms about something, but this has really hit a nerve. I was caught off guard. Demi Lovato has spent a large part of her career advocating for shaming and discrimination to stop. She really was against body shaming, or so I thought

I was reading through my newsfeed on Facebook the other day and came across a click bait post about Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato. I was bored and it caught my attention, so I clicked. I didn't expect to read what I did. I researched to make sure it was true. It was hard to believe that it actually was.

Demi Lovato body shamed a whole group of women saying their bodies were not “normal.” These women happened to be Taylor Swift and her friends. I'm taken aback. For someone who has been bullied for her weight and body, she has some nerve saying what she did.

She went through this growing up, people constantly making comments about her weight and how it went up and down. I remember when she took herself to get help because of how bad things were and how how all the comments were getting to her.

She should know that to do that is not okay. It hurts people. It can cause a lot of problems, including someone hurting themselves. It can be a very serious issue. You don't say these things if someone has a mental illness or they hurt themselves. Comments like what she made cause more damage than good.

She doesn't get to decide what is and isn't normal. Normal weight is based on a lot of things, none of which she was referring to. They should not be shamed for looking the way they do. If they are happy with themselves, we should be too.

We need to support one another instead of shame. Promote the good things and not comment about weight. Weight shouldn’t be everyone's concern. It can cause medical issues, but that is between a doctor and patient, not some person on the street.

I'm hoping this was just a bad day for her, and that she wasn't thinking when she posted that and that she feels bad. What she said is not acceptable. Hopefully she apologizes to them.

Shaming or discrimination of any kind should not happen. I'm going to call anyone who does it out. It's time to grow up and act like adults.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
