Louis The Child is an electronic dance music/future bass duo hailing from the windy city of Chicago. Comprised of Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennet, these two boys (that are younger than me, mind you), are making a name for themselves out West. Hauldren just finished up his freshman year at University of Southern California while Kennet plans on joining his friend after graduation this June from their respective high school.
Through a mutual friend, these two were able to link up at a Madeon concert and bond over their shared love of making and producing music. Hauldren (producing under the name Haul Pass at the time) and Freddy (a.k.a. Fatboy) found that they had quite a bit in common and began producing together.
In the fall of 2015, their track “It’s Strange” dropped and took flight before it could hit the ground. Shortly thereafter, Taylor Swift posted a picture on her twitter with songs “that will make your life more awesome” and the track proceeded to get even more buzz.
“It’s Strange” reached over 8 million hits on Soundcloud, their most successful track by a wide margin. The hypnotic beat drop was just heavy enough to become a summer hit and has only continued to grow in popularity. With K. Flay’s sweet vocals along with LTC’s impeccable production, it’s no surprise that this track blew up.
This past year, the duo was able to open for the likes of The Chainsmokers, SNBRN and Madeon himself. Hauldren described this all as coming “full circle” in an interview with Daily Nexus, after having started out at one of his concert’s in the first place.
With touring on the weekends, classes on the weekdays, and playing frat parties in between, this group is living the life the rest of us could only dream of.
Louis The Child was featured at Phi Delta Theta’s registered party, Phi Delt Phitness at USC this past fall where he headlined the rager, according to the Daily Trojan.
The jealousy consumes me for (against?) these Trojans.
As Kennett is still finishing up his high school studies, the bulk of their work together recently has been sending tracks back and forth together. Kennett had more experience in production when they began and Hauldren, the DJing. Together, they are seemingly unstoppable.
The majority of the music that this group is releasing is accessible free on their Facebook page, which I highly recommend that you add to your iTunes library ASAP.
This young duo only has good to come from them out in L.A. and I look forward to seeing what they have in store next.
Robby, Freddy, if you are reading this: Please come play at a party at Elon. Or Boston. Or my house if you’d like. I will supply food. Thank you and good night.
