Chest rising and falling quickly,
my feet guiding my heart in a sprint.
I am happy, excited, and young.
I am free.
The thick branches surround me with green weaved through.
I look to my right and see my companion, a fellow lost boy.
To my left I see the boy himself, Peter Pan.
He saved me from reality, from a place that knew no love.
I would meet him here in the woods of Neverland,
we would hide in the tops of trees looking over the island.
Let out snickers at Captain Hook’s men tripping and tumbling over “rocks”.
Hook would follow like a snake stalking prey but we blended into the leaves.
Dusk trickles over the tops of the trees.
Bedtime is upon the band of lost boys.
I watch my brothers snuggle in with a smile on my face.
More adventures and fun wait for us tomorrow.
I left the forest, my clothing dissipating with my fantasy.
The smile never left my face, just like my will to believe.
Neverland isn’t just an island, it’s a home.
A home for a lost boy like me.
