We have all been here; you question your faith (or the lack thereof.) It may be a situation, your peers, or just life that makes you question what you grew up knowing, but why is that? Growing up in a religious home and being the daughter of a minister, I've seen many of my peers, friends, and even myself have a moment of doubt in the faith we grew up in.
There comes a time where questions follow questions and sometimes there are no answers, but this is to be expected when your environment changes, your faith is challenged, or a life-changing event occurs. This is why many young adults (specifically in college) struggle with losing their faith, and it is imperative to find it again.
I'm not here to say which faith is right or wrong, but if you look for the truth, you'll find it. It is important that you find it because faith is essential to all humans (whether you believe it or not.) There is a desire to do something greater or be part of something greater. I believe that God has put that need there because He knows that it'll make us stronger. Faith will provide hope, a sense of community, an opportunity to change life, and the ability to even do something as basic as having a support system that provides a love with close friends.
These are essential to human nature, and faith provides these components, but, most importantly, it creates a connection with your Creator. Yes, science can explain many phenomena like the Northern lights, rainbows, and everything in our universe, but can it explain the sense of awe that you feel when you see how perfectly everything works?
Imagine, you are under the night sky, in a rural area, and the only light is that of the stars. Underneath this blanket of black and undertones of purple, the stars shine and you begin to wonder why something that can be explained by science still fills you with wonder. I have come up with an explanation: we yearn to know origins. This is why I got my DNA tested: to know where my ancestors came from, my family tree, and where I came from.
Beginnings are important, but so is the present. Do some soul searching because God, faith, and science go hand in hand, and deep down we yearn for purpose and meaning. I've been there, I have questioned my faith, I have lost it, and yet I found it again. It is such a big part of my life that my faith is unshakable, and I can safely say I have peace in my soul.
This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16
