When you're in high school, you think you make the friends that you're going to keep forever. For some people, this may be true, but most of the time, you and your friends get distant. After you graduate, you don't have to go to the same place every single day to see them. Maybe you go off to college and your other friends go to different schools or straight into the workplace. Sometimes, you just don't see a future together anymore. It happens and we can't change that, but we wish it wasn't our best friend.
Dear Ex-Best Friend,
We may have fought often in school, but you helped me get through a lot. I could tell before we graduated that this was going to happen. Slowly, I could tell that I wasn't going to see you anymore. At first, we tried texting each other often, but you went straight to working and I went to school. You were always busy, I understand, but it got to the point where I knew you didn't want to speak to me anymore. I guess you didn't feel the same about talking to me like you used to. Well, I just want you to know that I'm glad I had you for a short, short time in my life. We moved here at the same time and immediately, I knew I wanted you to be the one that gave me comfort. We helped each other through a lot of things. Especially your long-term relationship ending. I did everything I could for you, because I knew you would do the same for me. I just hope you don't forget me, as I won't forget you. You now go to the same university as me, but we still don't talk to make a chance to see each other. I work with your younger sister now, too, and always ask her how you're doing. It's been awhile so I have given up on trying, but I hope we both make new friends to remember how we treated each other. I still care about you and love you.
Love,
Your Ex-Best Friend
