I have always been a fan of Gilmore Girls and in light of A Year in the Life coming out in November, I thought it was a great time to write about Lorelai Gilmore. Gilmore Girls is one of those shows that will change your life and Lorelai Gilmore is a great role model. I am sure that many fans of the show have their own reasons for loving the dynamic character. She is so full of life, and can make any situation better. There is also a high chance that I am binge watching the show as I am writing this. There is nothing that can make your week better, other then coffee of course! With out any more of my ramblings, here are my 7 reasons for why Lorelai Gilmore is my role model and life coach.

1. She is absolutely herself.

There is no doubt to any fan of the show that Lorelai is lorelai and no one is going to change that. She is a sarcastic, pun making, fast talking, energetic coffee addict. One of the ways that makes Lorelai so wonderful is she never tried to change herself so she would fit in. She went out of her world to find a place that would love and accept her for who she is. It is very clear that she did not belong in her parents world, but she most defiantly belongs in Stars Hollow. Lorelai can teach us that just because you don't fit in somewhere does not mean that you will never fit in. You just need to find you own Stars Hollow.

2. She loves to eat.

It is very common to see women in TV shows who look as if they don't eat, or in the shows they are very aware of what they eating. Regina George, from Mean Girls, comes to mind. Lorelai is the complete opposite. She loves food. Anything sugary or deep fried has a special place next to her heart. It is very common in the show to see Lorelai eating, talking about what she wants to eat, or buying food that she is going to eat. In a world where many people still feel bad about eating some fun snacks that are bad for you to have a role model like Lorelai, I mean we don't all have to eat like Luke all the time right?

3. She has style.

Lorelai has a skill of always being able to look good, even when she is running to a parent teacher meeting in cut off shorts. Most of the time Lorelai is dressed to go to work in the office or she is chilling at home with Rori and a lot of food in pajamas. Her wardrobe is the perfect mix of casual and classy Lorelai helps ease the fear of growing up and becoming a boring adult, always dressing for the office or becoming a mother. Lorelai has a unique style that many would find odd but she owns it and can help teach all of us that just because we don't fit in that doesn't mean that people wont love us.

4. She makes the best of every situation.

There are many great things about the world we live in even though there can be days where it can be hard to remember that. There are definitely times where we need to channel our own inner Lorelai Gilmore. Just thinking about how happy and excited she gets about things can lighten up your mood. Lorelai could have seen her unexpected pregnancy as a horrible thing but she never once complained or made Rori feel like she was unwanted. She moved out and found a way to get a job as a maid in a inn. Lorelai then worked hard and become the manager then opened her own Inn. She has this great way of being so happy about everything and that is defiantly something that everyone need to be reminded of how to do from time to time.

5. She understands the need for coffee.

Every college person knows that it is basically impossible to get to that 8 am class without coffee and so does Lorelai. She knows how much coffee it takes to be successful for the day. It is very common to see both Lorelai and college students planning out your day just so you can get enough caffeine to know and do all the things that need to be done. There are not many situations that coffee can't fix and it ok to have that cup or 12 to get through the day.

6. She knows how to have fun.

The show itself is a very nice wholesome show. Lorelai plays a big role in that. You never see her getting super drunk all the time for fun and entertainment. There are no sex scenes. Lorelai has fun going to the town meetings, watching movies with her daughter, walking in the snow, and reading. Many people today need to be reminded that you do not need to be drunk or high to have a good time. Lorelai's simple wonder for the world and ability to have fun doing basically anything is another thing I admire about her.

7. She does not need to have a man.

Lorelai understands that she does not need to have a man to have a good life. She is not afraid to walk away form a relationship where she is not happy. She will not settle. Even if that means not marrying the guy who knocked her up and going to live and work in a inn, breaking off two more engagements because it wasn't quite right. Being happy should not have requirements, and no one knows that more then Lorelai Gilmore. Man come and go but Lorelai knows who is really important, her friends and family, oh and her coffee.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
