Kanye West announced that he would be running for president in 2020 at the 2015 VMA awards, but it seems that his presidential run has been put on hold for now. This likely comes as a big relief to most Democratic voters after seeing what a yuuuuuge disaster the Clinton campaign turned out to be. The DNC chose their own fate after turning their back on Sanders, but I digress.
If Trump and West faced off on the debate stage it would be a complete catastrophe for both political parties. Their boisterous egos would make the U.S. the laughing stock of the world, although we’re pretty much already there after electing Trump.
After Trump was elected, the internet became obsessed with already looking forward to the 2020 election. Kanye West seemed to dominate the headlines on who would emerge as the ultimate challenger, but fortunately as of December 13th, that daunting reality can be put to rest.
When Trump and West were spotted together, they were swarmed by journalists who questioned what the two discussed about and whether Kanye was still considering a presidential run in 2020. “I just wanted to take a picture right now,” Kanye would reply, but his blond hairdo already revealed the answer.
Soon after, Kanye revealed on social media that both of them had discussed multicultural issues and that he would choose to run in 2024 instead. Can I get a hallelujah?
Now the spotlight returns to the main two candidates who are favored to challenge Donald Trump in 2020: Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren.
Should it come down to the two of them, the Democratic Party would likely face a similar dilemma as 2016. The Neo-Liberals would likely side with Booker, while the Progressives would side with Elizabeth Warren.
Although, there is another Progressive candidate that the DNC should keep in mind if they hope to take back the White House in 2020: Tulsi Gabbard.
Unlike Booker and Warren, she is very outspoken about the Dakota
Pipeline, and is currently on ground zero with the protesters. She is also an
Iraq veteran herself, and differs from other Democrats on her foreign policy
beliefs, which could give the Democratic party an unlikely edge with the
veteran vote, should Trump not keep to his promises. She was also endorsed by
Ron Paul as the only sane option for Secretary of State, although the chances
that Trump would choose her are slim to none. The “Bernie or Bust” movement
would likely swing her way as well, especially after she stepped down as a DNC
Vice Chair to endorse Sanders. Anyone who’s in good terms with Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders would
certainly be a force to be reckoned with in 2020.
But for now, all we can do is hope that Trump turns out to be not as yuuuuuge of a disaster as expected, for the sake of our country. Although it will be tough not to feel consumed by blind optimism while doing so.
