He Looks Like Jesus

Don Boyett, a virtuous follower and image of Jesus of Christ.

He Looks Like Jesus
Linda Boyett

Summer of 2012 I started working at a small coffee shop in my hometown. Little did I know that my life would be changed forever through the unconditional love poured out. There was a man who loved me, celebrated me and prayed for me. He is a man who continues to be on my heart daily and will forever hold a special place there.

"Dede, The Lord has a special plan for your life," where the words I heard almost everyday by a man who looked just like my Jesus. He is a man who preaches, teaches and shares the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here is how Don Boyett, Brother D, impacts the lives of so many.

Lake Providence, LA, to outsiders, can be depicted as a segregated town, full of past hurt. But because of Brother D, that gap is being closed each day. I've never seen anyone on earth love people the way he does. He is a gentle soul full of hope and love. He is a true example of what it looks like to be more than a follower of Christ, but an image of him.

There is no one who walks through the doors of Providence Church who is not loved. Brother D strives to make sure each body that crosses his path knows Jesus and knows love. You can see the presence of Christ all over him. You can feel the joy he brings to this life. He is a man who has allowed the Lord to fully open him, use him and make him more like Jesus. He is server with a glad heart and a cheerful giver.

Throughout your life you will get those who bring you joy, support you and believe in you. But sadly, it's not everyday you get someone who relentlessly pours Christ into you. Let us take up the obligation our father have left for us -- to share love. Let us be the Brother D in someone's path -- the Jesus in someone's life.

Holy. Righteous. Loving. Kind. Friendly. Helpful. Protective. Caring. Sharing. Powerful. Mighty.Compassionate. Forgiving. Empowering. Discerning. Consuming. Cleansing. Healing. Delivering. Restoring. Moving. Creating. These are words to describe a man who looks so much like our King Jesus.

In Matthew 10:34–39, Jesus told us what it means to truly follow Him. He said, "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword..." And I know for a fact Brother Don Boyett was created to be that sword.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
