It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Finals

It's beginning to look a lot like finals everywhere you look. Stressed out students fill their heads in laptops, papers, and books. Christmas lights glimmer in the night sky, hopes of happiness soon to come. For now, students fill the floors of libraries and study nooks galore. The endless coffees, one, two, three, however, many you need - it's beginning to look a lot more acceptable. Naps in a nook, bed, or floor, it's okay to have a quick snore. Cookies, pizzas, mozzarella sticks, it's all the goodness that fills the stomachs running on empty. A quick snack here and there suffices the hunger of students as hungry as bears.

It's beginning to look a lot more hopeful as exams approach. Pencils hurriedly circle in the scantrons of exams, as students recall information recently taken in. Professors tap their feet along the way, checking for any errors and scanning the rooms array. A, B, C, or D - which one could it be? Recall the notes galore, and lectures that put you to bore. One, two, three, in the blink of an eye, you suddenly recall the truths behind the questions laid in front of you. The prettiest sight to see is the A on your exam, Campus Cookies outside your door, and the newest Netflix screen. The prettiest aroma to smell is the nearest Christmas candle that soothes your soul as you hurry along the way, finishing the week away.

One exam, two exam, three exam, it never ends. One after another, time creeps closer to Christmas break. College students wish for the Christmas spirit of Michael Buble, mistletoes strung, Christmas wreaths hung, and trees mounted with lights spun in a trance around the huge speckled green plants. The spirit creeps upon students excited for the holidays, yet taken back to the reality of the workload piled in front of them.

Take a look at the Power Points again, and maybe even then you might recall the glimpse of an answer given away in class a day or two ago. There's a Starbucks truck on the side of the street giving a high of happiness to share around stressed out students bound in study groups of five. All strung upon the streets and sidewalks wishing for the Christmas miracle of passing exam grades and magical GPA's, that'll boost their self-esteems since it's steps closer to their dreams.

The final days come, libraries strung with focus and silence that not even a mouse could scurry on by. Focus turns to success, and it's beginning to look a lot like finals, but soon it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
