Look Good, Feel Good, Maybe Pass that Final
We’re all feeling the burnout with finals starting this week, so I thought we could all use the following tips to do a little something more than study til 2 a.m. and hook ourselves up to caffeine drips.
From the blur of psychology classes, one thing that always rises to the forefront of my mind around this time is the Wonder Woman pose. What’s the Wonder Woman pose, you ask? Simple, it involves the iconic power stance that Wonder Woman does before she changes to her theme song: feet apart, shoulders squared, and slightly squinted eyes. It’s about having good posture, which influences how confident you feel. The combination of good posture and confidence helps you focus better, and better focus can help you remember the square root of nine for a math test, or which words have bound stems for a linguistics test.
Another obvious way to boost your confidence is to spend five minutes before you drop like the walking dead into your dorm bed and plan what outfit you’ll wear to your 8:00 a.m. final. At this point, anything clean, comfortable, and nice looking will do, but you want to put a little effort into it and show that you treat this final seriuosly.
My finals outfit staple? Black leggings, black mini skirt, white sweater, and bold red lip. It says “I’m a professional student who is also fashion forward”, and is a nod to every single one of my 90s fashion inspirations.
Lastly, nothing pumps you up for a class final than a badass playlist. You want something with a good bass, or with lyrics that make you feel confident, powerful, and maybe even reminds you why you’re there in that class. Maybe one of your favorite songs from a tv show or movie. Think strong power ballads or workout music. (Because we’ve all been making sure to go the gym, LOL). One of my favorites is “Be a Man” from Mulan,
Or maybe it’s a gen ed and you just want to get through it! In that case, the song for you is the Frozen remix, F*ck It All: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohBQ59OXnYM
So make that outfit, look good, give yourself a pep talk and stand in that Wonder Woman pose for a hot second and walk into that class room with your favorite song running in your head like you’re Rocky Balboa running up those stairs. You totally got this.
