In honor of there only being less than two months left of summer here are ten things that every college student at Utica College cannot wait to see throughout the year!
- Clean communal bathrooms
There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning to a dirty bathroom and a mess you did not create. Having the same stalls, tubs and sinks shared between twenty other people, cleaning day does not come soon enough.
2. Only two people to a dorm
\
With there being record acceptance for the past couple of years, the college does not have enough space with their housing agreement of two years or more as well as the new freshman who need to dorm. Meaning that the freshman are being tripled. Being forced to share a room with not only one other person but two. This could be a good thing or a bad however, there is no question that a lack of privacy is occurring. Any student at UC would love to see themselves in only a double.
3. Home Cooked Food
The dining commons do not have the most variety, with their constant burgers every night there is a lot to get sick of over the nine months spent in school. Everyone is happy to see home cooked food when breaks arrive. There is just something about a good meal, you don’t miss it until it is gone.
4. Pay Day
For any student in college there is never a day quite like friday. The end of the week means the beginning of the weekend, and with that comes pay day. The day where the entire week has paid off and the trips to the dining hall can stop because you finally have enough money to waste on an overpriced dinner you will regret by wednesday.
5. No Snow
Utica College is also known as hell during the winter. White outs while walking to class, the freezing wind chill that could knock you out and of course the constant fear of falling in public when you know it is only a matter of time. With the snow being six out of the nine months we are in school the only thing that someone from Utica looks forward to is spring and summer.
6. The Dome
As the athletes pride and joy of their beloved school the dome was lost to us this year from one of the many white outs we face at Utica. However, they are rebuilding it, hopefully stronger than the last and with no way of forgetting the constant jokes that came out of this giant bubble popping, UC would not be UC without the dome.
7. Make a Moose
As the moose is one of the greatest pride here at Utica, no student ever passes up the chance to make a moose when the event comes around. Free to all students, those brave enough walk away with a family of moose’s all dressed with their UC shirts. All students are ready and trained to fight, bribe, and cheat their way into making a moose.
8. Tailgating/ Homecoming
With homecoming being such a big part of all colleges, Utica does it right. With their tailgating surrounding the school, football games and hundreds of families, and alumni all waiting for the football team to take another win. No one does homecoming better than a pioneer.
9. Tours
Here is a secret hack for those who do not know or those who are new to UC. The food is always better around tour time. Meaning once the high school seniors are looking into colleges that is the right time to head to the dining hall. That is when the school pulls out all stops in order to ensure that all students looking at the campus like what they eat. Other than tour season, please for your own sake buy ramen.
10. Pledging
No matter what time of year it is, there is a good chance that someone on campus will be pledging a sorority or a frat. If this person is you, then the aftermath is an amazing feeling, random people will congratulate you when you are finished and wearing letters. If this is not you then welcome the fun of six weeks watching the people pledge. Maybe after seeing it be done there is a little hope that you can also do it! Joining is about getting involved in your college career, because college is not all about books and parties here at UC!
These are just a few of the things that people on our Utica College campus look forward to during the entire year. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
